Funeral Arrangements have been set for student Eric Shields '21 who was shot and killed in Cincinnati's West End neighborhood on Saturday evening, August 17. Eric's visitation will be held 5-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, and 9-11 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. All will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 745 Ezzard Charles Drive.

Bruin families, all after-school activities are canceled on Friday including the soccer and volleyball games. Students who wish to join DPCR counselors and staff Friday on a bus to St. Joseph must return a signed permission slip and attend in DPCR uniform. Please call the Main Office with any questions (513-861-0600).

Eric had transferred to DPCR and was preparing to start his junior year. As a new incoming student he participated in our summer orientation program and had been on campus for the first two weeks of August. During this short time with us, he made a positive impression with our staff as quiet, kind, fun-loving and as a young man with a desire to succeed.

While Eric had only just joined our DePaul Cristo Rey family, he had family members and friends among our students, and his loss is felt greatly by our entire community. As a Catholic/Christian community, we lift up his family in prayer and support during this incredibly sad time, and invite the wider community to do the same.
