Rey of Light Raises Over $700,000 for Scholarships

The results are in and this year’s Rey of Light Scholarship Benefit was the best yet – raising over $700,000 for financial assistance for DePaul Cristo Rey students. Generous event sponsors, dedicated volunteers and more than 500 guests contributed to this outstanding success.

Rey of Light was held on Saturday, April 27 at St. Xavier High School since DePaul Cristo Rey is undergoing a major campus construction project. Linda Holthaus and Richard Zinicola chaired the event, leading a committee of more than 100 volunteers.

Rey of Light continues to be the most significant fundraiser for the school, raising more than $3 million in seven years – all for financial aid. Every DePaul Cristo Rey student receives significant financial aid to attend the school because DPCR serves only students from economically-challenged families, preparing them for college and the future through a program combining college-prep academics with a Corporate Work Study Program.

The evening included cocktails, dinner, as well as silent and live auctions. A Fund-A-Need Paddle Raise for scholarships alone brought in almost $310,000.
