Teacher Dr. Manuel Iris to Appear with Cincinnati Pops Orchestra
In an out-of-this-world opportunity, teacher Dr. Manuel Iris will join the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra for its “Pops in Space” concert series January 18-20.
Dr. Iris, who teaches in DPCR’s English Department, is Cincinnati’s poet laureate. He was invited to read two poems during the “Pops in Space” concerts. He will read his newest poem, “To the Cosmic Concert,” which he wrote especially for the Pops concerts. He will also read “High Flight,” a poem by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. For inspiration while composing his poem, Dr. Iris listened to musical selections the Pops will play during the concerts.
“Pops in Space” performances are Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 20 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available through the Cincinnati Pops web site.
