DePaul Cristo Rey High School is excited to welcome Torry Cornett as the new Athletics Director.
Torry is a native of Columbus, Ohio, where he excelled as an All-State student-athlete in both football and basketball at Columbus’s Independence High School (2004). He accepted a scholarship offer to compete for Prairie View A&M University where he started 10 games for the Panthers basketball team before returning to his home state to compete for the University of Cincinnati’s football team. After competing in the 2006 International Bowl, the 2007 Papa John’s Bowl and the 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl as the starting linebacker, Torry graduated from UC and had the opportunity to play in the German Football League for two seasons.
Upon returning to the states, Torry began his coaching career at the University of Rio Grande (Ohio) as an assistant for the men’s basketball program. He then joined the staff at Mount St. Joseph University as an academic advisor and adjunct instructor. In 2017, he was hired as the associate director for Student Athlete Support Services at UC working with the men and women’s golf, track & field, and cross-country programs.
“I am honored to serve the DPCR Athletics Department,” says Torry. “I stand on the shoulders of all the administrators, coaches, student-athletes, and staff who have laid the groundwork before me. I look forward to the remarkable relationships that will be established and the opportunity to serve.”
