Service

Service is an essential part of the DePaul Cristo Rey experience and reflects our commitment to forming Women and Men of Charity. Through service, students are challenged to recognize the dignity of every person, respond to the needs of their communities, and put their faith into action.
Students are required to complete service hours each year according to their grade level:

  • Freshmen: 10 service hours
  • Sophomores: 12 service hours
  • Juniors: 14 service hours
  • Seniors: 16 service hours

At least half of each year’s required hours must be completed through service with a church, nonprofit organization, or community agency outside of DePaul Cristo Rey. The remaining hours may be completed through service opportunities offered at DPCR, including after-school activities, school events, and campus ministry initiatives. Students are also welcome to complete all of their required service hours through off-campus service opportunities. Throughout the year, the Campus Ministry Office coordinates a variety of volunteer opportunities, both on and off campus, to help students fulfill their service requirements while growing in compassion, leadership, and a spirit of service.

DePaul Cristo Rey is also home to a student-led conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Guided by a student leadership board, the organization provides monthly service projects, volunteer opportunities, and initiatives that encourage students to live out the charisms of St. Vincent de Paul through humility, simplicity, and charity.
